The German pharmaceutical industry is facing a shortage of skilled workers

The industry trade union IG BCE and the German Association of Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies are warning of impending competitive disadvantages and a weakening of innovative strength. The most important reason for this is the significant shortage of labour. This applies to laboratories as well as to production halls and research departments in the industry. According to a recent study by the Cologne Institute for Economic Research (IW), there is currently a shortage of around 176,000 skilled workers in pharmaceutical occupations.

Meanwhile, one in four vacancies in production cannot be filled. There are also significant bottlenecks in research, development and IT professions. The shortage of skilled workers is a ‘stumbling block’ for Germany as a centre for the pharmaceutical industry. Because there is a lack of young talent, the industry is appealing to politicians: 1) ‘existing skilled labour potential’ must be better utilised, 2) employees must be better qualified and trained, and 3) targeted people must be recruited from abroad.

The immigration of qualified personnel from third countries should therefore become increasingly important in the future. With its holistic approach and the many countries of origin, Signite offers every opportunity for the secure recruitment of skilled workers of all kinds. We would be happy to advise you!
