For the first time since the coronavirus pandemic, staffing levels in health and care have grown noticeably again. The trend in the inpatient sector differed from that in the outpatient sector.
At the end of December 2024, a total of just under 6.2 million people were employed in the German healthcare sector, 102,000 more than in the previous year (an increase of 1.7 per cent). This means that, for the first time since the peak of the coronavirus pandemic in 2021, the number of staff in the healthcare sector has grown by more than one per cent.
Statisticians recorded a significant increase in the number of employees in (semi-)inpatient facilities. At 64,000 employees (up 3 per cent), the increase here was significantly higher than in the outpatient sector (up 32,000 or 1.3 per cent).
