Those working in nursing now earn good money. In February 2022, the nursing commission agreed on a gradual increase in minimum wages in nursing, as well as additional vacation days, and proposed correspondingly gradually increasing hourly wages.
The first increase in the minimum wage for nursing staff in Germany took place on 1 September 2022. The last increase was on 1 May 2024.
According to the federal government, the minimum wages for all three groups will be increased as follows:
Nursing professionals:
- On 1 September 2022, the minimum wage for nursing professionals was raised from €15 to €17.10.
- On 1 May 2023, it rose to €17.65 and on 1 December 2023 to €18.25.
- On 1 May 2024, the minimum wage for specialist care staff will have risen to €19.50.
- On 1 July 2025, the minimum wage is set to rise to €20.50.
Care staff with one or two years of training:
- On 1 September 2022, the minimum wage for nursing staff with one or two years of training was raised from €12.50 to €14.60.
- On 1 May 2023, it will rise to €14.90 and on 1 December 2023 to €15.25.
- On 1 May 2024, the minimum wage for qualified nursing staff will have risen to €16.50.
- On 1 July 2025, the minimum wage is set to rise to €17.35.
Nursing staff without training:
- On 1 September 2022, the minimum wage for nursing staff without training was raised from €12 to €13.70.
- On 1 May 2023, it rose to €13.90 and on 1 December 2023 to €14.15.
- On 1 May 2024, the minimum wage for nursing assistants rose to €15.50.
- On 1 July 2025, the minimum wage is set to rise to €16.10.
In addition to the minimum wage, the holiday entitlement for all three groups will also increase. According to Verdi, the entitlement was increased from 26 days to 27 days in 2022. As of 2023, nursing staff with a five-day week have a holiday entitlement of 29 days.
All of this does not apply across the board to all employees in nursing care. It may be necessary to obtain individual information about this.
