DBfK on the shortage of nursing staff: employers must take action

The German Professional Association for Nursing Professions (DBfK) has accused hospital employers of not taking enough action against the shortage of nursing staff. There is too often a lack of introduction of more attractive roles for nursing staff and modern, i.e. more flexible working time models.

The reform of hospital structures currently being discussed by politicians will certainly help to some extent. As a result, the tasks of hospitals in Germany will be defined differently depending on their size. The generalist nursing training programme, on the other hand, is also viewed positively, as the new job profiles for nurses will allow staff to be deployed more flexibly and open up new career paths. However, here too, the employer must provide good induction training and offer the opportunity for individual specialisation.

On the whole, there is a lot of movement and a trend towards more opportunities and more attractive jobs for carers in Germany.
