Minimum wage in nursing care to rise on 1 July

On 1 July, the national minimum wage for nursing care in Germany will increase. This is the third and final stage of the increase decided by the Nursing Commission at the beginning of last year. Nursing staff will then receive at least €20.50 per hour. According to the federal government, around 1.3 million people work in facilities that fall under the minimum wage for care workers.

In detail:
For nursing professionals, the minimum wage will rise from €19.50 to €20.50 per hour. This corresponds to an increase of 5.1 per cent.

For qualified nursing assistants with at least one year of training and relevant work experience, the hourly wage will rise from €16.50 to €17.35, also an increase of 5.1 per cent.

Care assistants will receive €16.10 per hour instead of the previous €15.50, which corresponds to an increase of 3.9 per cent.

This means that income in elderly care has risen significantly over the last few years and is now (significantly) higher than in hospitals, for example, which pay according to collective agreements.
