Qualified specialists urgently needed: Federal Employment Agency – chefs and service technicians as new bottleneck occupations

The number of occupations in short supply in Germany fell slightly in 2023, but remains at a very high level. This is the result of the annual analysis of the shortage of skilled workers by the Federal Employment Agency (BA), which has now been published. Shortages in filling vacancies are evident in 183 of the approximately 1,200 occupations assessed.

Even though unemployment has recently risen, companies are often unable to fill their vacancies because of a lack of skilled workers.

This trend is set to continue in the long term, as demographic developments mean that many well-qualified and experienced specialists will leave the labour market in the coming years.

In 2023, the occupations with the highest employment bottlenecks included, in particular, nursing and healthcare professions, skilled trades, professional road transport, childcare and social pedagogy. Technical occupations were affected, above all, in the IT sector and in construction planning. There were also bottlenecks in the catering industry.

New bottleneck occupations compared to the previous year include chefs and technical service staff.

In the context of strategic personnel planning, recruiting qualified personnel from abroad is also an option here. Signite is happy to advise on the possibilities and actively support you in your search for suitable profiles!
