Bavaria: “Fast Lane” for foreign nursing professionals

Foreign nursing staff are to be allowed to work in Bavaria more quickly in future. This is to be achieved with a three-pillar strategy for a “fast lane” that interlinks visa and professional recognition procedures and thus accelerates them.

One milestone is the centralisation of the recognition procedure at the State Office for Nursing on 1 July 2023, which is the basis for a uniform, standardised, digitalised and speedy procedure throughout Bavaria. Up to now, the seven district governments were responsible for this.

Specifically, the Ministry of Health and Care, which is responsible for professional law, the Ministry of the Interior, which is responsible for residence law, and the Ministry of Labour, which is responsible for coordinating the recognition of foreign professional qualifications, are to work more closely together across departments.

Centralisation certainly makes sense and is a long overdue step. Otherwise, we will have to see whether the nursing staff will really be on a fast lane. One can hope so… We will keep you informed.
