Unions and public employers have reached an agreement: The more than 2.6 million federal and municipal employees – including nursing staff in municipal facilities – will receive more money from March 2024 and inflation compensation payments before the end of this year. In total, employees will benefit from a pay increase of up to 17 per cent. This also affects all nurses who work at a municipal hospital and are therefore paid according to the collective agreement.

• Employees’ incomes will increase by a basic amount of 200 euros plus 5.5 per cent from March 2024.
• The inflation compensation payment affects all those who have been working in Germany for longer. They will receive a total of 3,000 euros tax- and contribution-free, the first part of which will be paid this year.
• The collective agreement runs for 24 months until the end of December 2024.
