German elderly care will need more than 130,000 additional skilled workers by 2035

A study has analysed the future need for skilled workers in elderly care and the results have now been published. By 2035, more than 130,000 additional full-time skilled nursing staff will be needed in Germany. Already in 2025, a shortage of almost 60,000 nursing professionals is predicted, especially in nursing homes and in the outpatient care of patients.

The main reason is that many currently active nursing staff will retire in the coming years and at the same time the number of people in need of nursing care in Germany will increase significantly because society is ageing: people have fewer children and are living longer.

The study also shows the increased need for skilled workers separately for each federal state. It can be seen that the demand is particularly high in the Flächenländer Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony. A job in elderly care is therefore a safe bet and is now also very well paid.
