The Nursing Staff Lower Limits Ordinance is being expanded once again to include another nursing-sensitive area: neurosurgery. From the beginning of next year, i.e. 2024, a ratio of nine patients to one nurse will apply on the day shift and 18 to one on the night shift.
These ratios are intended to ensure the necessary quality of care and thus high standards for patients in areas where a particularly high level of care is required. With the introduction of the area of neurosurgery, approximately 93.5 percent of all occupancy days are expected to be covered by lower nursing staff quotas.
For international specialists with professional experience in this area, this means that more staff will be sought for these departments in the future and that there will therefore also be more attractive job opportunities.
